May 2023 Vice-President’s Piece

Wowza! The Great NZ Quilt Show is done and dusted for another two years. It’s a huge undertaking for the committee and we really appreciate the lovely emails we got thanking us for a great show. We also want to thank the many people who came up to us at the show in person and commented on how much they were enjoying it, it makes all the hard work for the last few months worth it.

There were certainly some hiccups as you can expect with a show of this size, but we had no fire alarms, no ambulances and lots of smiley faces from the attendees, the class goers and the merchants, so I think we can deem the show a big success!

A big thank you to all our sponsors, volunteers, merchants, members, and long-suffering families without who this kind of event couln’t happen.

We hope that those of you who didn’t get to attend have been there in spirit with us through our Facebook and Instagram posts. We will also share some photos here, and the photos of all the prizewinning quilts will be up in a gallery on the website soon.

With the members exhibition, the colour study quilts, the brown colour challenge quilts, the members Lines challenge, the suitcase exhibition, the regional group exhibitions, the Hoffman challenge and the SAQA guest exhibition (did I forget any?!) there were more than 400 quilts on show! Thank you to all those who submitted quilts, without you there would be nothing to see.

So now that 2023 GNZQS is over, it seems like the perfect time to start planning your entries to the GNZQS 2025! And don’t forget, there is the RED colour challenge to enter and at the members breakfast we announced the next members challenge theme.

Make yourself a cup of whatever takes your fancy, settle in and read on for more details.

See you next time.
