Hi Charlotte – thanks for your article, “Digging deeper for inspiration”. It’s wonderful to hear how and where quilters find their inspiration. Your article reminded me of Michele Hill finding inspiration in floor tiles for her various tributes to William Morris. As I am writing this comment, I can’t help but reflect on where I find inspiration. A fabric line (currently obsessed with Art Gallery’s range, Cherie), a magazine (love Quilt mania special children, other quilts (so enjoyed seeing funky, colourful quilts hanging in Donna’s Quilt Studio in Hamilton on Friday) or a concept. The concepts are always harder – and take longer. For example last year I created a victorian themed baby boy quilt (must have been the birth of Prince George) – took me hours of research just to come up with the images I wanted to applique – a steam train, sailing ship, violin, spinning top, rocking horse etc. I would love to hear how other members find their inspiration….

  2. Hi Jennie, I could imagine the hours you spent researching your victorian themed baby quilt and also imagine how much you learnt while doing the research. Following our ideas can only ever lead to new learning, artistic growth and then even more ideas!
