Aotearoa Quilters – Members Exhibition – Conditions of Entry

Aotearoa Quilters invites entries for a Members-only exhibition at The Great New Zealand Quilt Show to be held at the  

Energy Events Centre, Rotorua, 14-16 May 2021.

Please read conditions of entry carefully before submitting an entry. 

Quilt details

  • Maximum quilt size is 240cm in height and 300cm in width. There are three categories which are defined by the width of the quilt.

Small [up to 75cm wide]      Medium [ 76cm to 150cm wide]       Large 151cm to300cm]

  • “Quilt” is defined as being layered and stitched together.
  • Quilts must not be mounted or framed with hard materials.
  • Quilts that have been exhibited in Aotearoa Quilters’ travelling exhibitions or previous GNZQS exhibitions in the past are not eligible,

Entry Details

  • Entrants must be current Members of Aotearoa Quilters. Join here if you aren’t a member yet.
  • The entry fee is $20 for the first entry.  Each additional entry is $10. Payment is to be made by online banking to ASB 12-3163-0177234-000, with the Reference GNZQS and your name. Please complete one form for each quilt entered. Please note this is a different bank account to the one we use for everything else.
  • Aotearoa Quilters reserves the right not to accept any quilts that do not meet the conditions of entry or that the Committee deems as not being a suitable entry.
  • Insurance of entries is the responsibility of the entrant. Whilst all care will be taken, Aotearoa Quilters will not accept liability for any loss, misdirected or delayed mail or damage or loss of entries while in their care.
  • All parties involved in the construction of the quilt must be named on the entry form.
  • Selection of quilts will be made by photograph. Do not send quilts until you receive notification of where and when to send.
  • Selectors/Judges’ decisions shall be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Entries may be for sale at the price set by the maker. Aotearoa Quilters will retain a 15% commission.
  • Photographing of the exhibition will be permitted by the general public.
  • Aotearoa Quilters may use photographic images for promotional purposes. Quiltmakers will be acknowledged.

Hanging and Identification Details

Hanging sleeve and label details will be outlined in the acceptance email.

Photography Details

It is important to submit good quality photographs, as they will be used for selection into the exhibition and to print a catalogue. Quilts need to be hanging flat and straight in a well-lit position. The colours of the photograph need to be as close as possible to the actual quilt. All border edges need to be visible in the full shot, but not in the detail shot.

Two photographs are required for each entry – a full photo that has all the borders of the quilt showing, and a close-up detail photo. Name the photo files and check the file size before completing your online entry form.

  • Each file must be no smaller than 1 Mb and no larger than 4 Mb. Save your digital images  as a JPEG file.Your computer photo viewing programme and/or your cellphone camera both have options for resizing.
  • Name each photo file as follows:
  •  Full quilt photo – Entrant’s last name, quilt title, full
  • Detail quilt photo – Entrant’s last name, quilt title, detail

Submission Details 

  • Complete an online entry form and entry fee payment for each submission.  PLEASE NOTE: you need to be logged in to access the entry form.
  • Make your payment using online banking to ASB 12-3163-0177234-000 (Remember, it’s a different bank account). Reference: GNZQS entry and Your Name. The entry fee is $20 for the first entry and each additional entry is $10.
  • A copy of your entry form will be automatically emailed to you
  • Online entry and photographs must be submitted by 15th February 2021. Notification for selection/non-selection will be in March 2021. All further details about sending your quilt will be sent with the acceptance email.
