SEWEZI Flight Challenge – UPDATE

Aotearoa Quilters’ Traveling Quilt Exhibition

Taupo Museum, Niven Room 15 April to 8 May

Easter and the school holidays are coming up and while you are planning what to do during the holidays, why not schedule in a visit to the Taupo Museum where the SewEzi Flight Challenge quilts will be on exhibition.

This travelling exhibition is coming to an end so this is your last opportunity to see the art works in a public gallery setting.  Take a look at the quilts and see the many, varied interpretations of the theme “Flight”.

The exhibition comprises 20 quilts all measuring 75 cm square.  All quilts are for sale.  There are stunning birds and butterflies and a wide variety of other designs such as Shirley Sparks’ aerial view of the tulip fields of Amsterdam.  Jeannette Gillies from Wanaka was the winner of the Challenge with “Gone” – a beautifully presented silk, hand-dyed art piece representing a Turkish door where the occupants had locked up and gone!  This quilt will stir your emotions as you question who has left, why they have gone and where are they now?
