March 2022 President’s Piece

Kia Ora Everyone

As we head into Autumn the weather has got slightly cooler which means it is far more pleasant sewing in the afternoons. I think a lot of you must have doing just that. At the time of writing this I notice that the Brown entries have reached 110. WOW! that is fantastic, well done everyone and the entries have not closed yet. I hope that you have been using some of Charlotte’s healthy habits when you have been furiously sewing. Brown was not a popular colour choice, but it has received almost the highest number of entries. I can’t wait to see them all on show. If your club/guild would like to exhibit them please get in touch with Judi Schon  judithaschon@gmail.com  Both the Brown and Lines challenges will be available to travel for the next year.

Now that Brown is completed why not think about the members ‘Lines’ challenge. With Covid still around and so many of us sticking to home, sewing is a great way to spend your time. I would love to see the same response as Brown. Are you up for the challenge?

I have been working hard to complete my Lines challenge because I am off to Dubai on the 15th March. This time my husband is coming as well so he will meet his grand-daughter for the first time. She is now 6 months old and looks quite delightful when we see pictures. He has not seen his daughter for 4 years so it will be quite a reunion. With self- isolating, the opportunity to go was too great to pass up. I am also looking forward to seeing the World Expo. My daughter has been in charge of the hospitality/food section of the expo and is looking forward to showing us what she has been involved with over the past 4 years. With so many countries exhibiting, I am hoping to get some inspiration for designs for quilts. Sounds exciting, I just hope we can make it there and back safely.

Planning for The Great NZ Quilt Show 2023 has begun. The dates are the 12th, 13th, 14th May, so mark those dates on your calendar. If you are able to give some time to Aotearoa Quilters, we would love to have your help. Four of our committee members have to stand down this year as they have done 6 years of service to AQ. They will leave gaps that need to be filled, but I promise you will not be asked to do a job unless you are willing. Please think about it. Keep safe and I will see you in three weeks time providing we don’t get stuck in Dubai.

Regards Valda Sutton, President Aotearoa Quilters
