Free Motion Quilting with Angela Walters

Free Motion Quilting The new Modern Quilting movement has brought about the need to adopt free-motion quilting styles to modern-style quilts.  From the beginner to more experienced machine quilters who need a refresher, this book serves its purpose well.

Section 1 covers the basics of getting started including threads, batting, marking tools and the essential quilting gloves, Supreme Sliders and free-motion feet.

Section 2 contains 28 new quilting designs with step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow and clearly illustrated.  Each design shows a numbered directional stitch drawing and a coloured image of the finished, quilted fabric.

Section 3 applies the designs to modern quilts with tips and ideas for free-machine quilting the simpler shapes, such as squares, strips, zigzags and log cabins, so often used in  modern quilts.  Again modern quilts are to the fore.

The new generation of quilters is well-catered for in this book.  It will give inexperienced machine quilters confidence to attempt the designs while providing new ideas and possibilities for quilters who wish to modernise their styles of stitching.

This is a great little book with tons of value.  If you have any hang-ups about free-motion quilting, just as I did, you will come away thinking “I can do that”.  At the moment it’s my ‘quilting bible’ and also comes highly recommended by Donna Ward – now she is a FMQ legend!
