TWENTY ONE YEARS OF QUILTING

The Takitimu Patchwork and Quilting Groups 21st birthday exhibition opens at the Southland Museum and Art gallery on 26th July. The exhibition contines until mid September. The exhigition features quilts made by members during the 21 years the group has been meeting in the Ohai Nightcaps area of Southland.

Quilts from the early 90’s feature the small print fabrics of the time with a circular round log cabin piece causing a few smiles when it was put up for selection. Farmyard and row by row quilts show off the rural background of many members and the country colours of the mid and late 90’s.

The Southland Museum and
Art Gallery was pleased to off this opportunity to exhibit to what is thought to be Southland’s largest quilting group. the exhibition follows the Aortearoa Quilter Challenge whis showing until 22nd July. Museum Director, Gael Ramsay, whilst selecting the quilts explained that she was looking to show the more traditional aspects of the craft as well as some innovative work from the recen years of the group.

The exhibition  will conclude a series of fibre exhibitions this year with the WOW exhibition being hosted in April and May.  Contributed by Mary Napper
