The Great New Zealand Quilt Show – Conditions of Entry

Aotearoa Quilters – Members Exhibition – Conditions of EntryAotearoa Quilters invites entries for a Members-only exhibition at The Great New Zealand Quilt Show to be held at the  Energy Events Centre, Rotorua,  8-10 March 2019.Entries have now closed.

Quilt details

  • Maximum quilt size is 240cm in width and height. There are three categories which are defined by the width of the quilt.

Small [up to 75cm wide]      Medium [ 75cm to 150cm wide]       Large 150cm to 240cmwide]

  • “Quilt” is defined as being three layers stitched together.
  • Quilts must not be mounted or framed with hard materials.
  • Quilts that have been exhibited in Aotearoa Quilters’ exhibitions in the past are not eligible, but there is no ‘made after’ date.

Entry Details

  • Entrants must be current Members of Aotearoa Quilters. Join here if you aren’t a member yet.
  • The entry fee is $20 for the first entry.  Each additional entry is $10.
  • Aotearoa Quilters reserves the right not to accept any quilts that do not meet the conditions of entry or that the Committee deems as not being a suitable entry.
  • Insurance of entries is the responsibility of the entrant. Whilst all care will be taken, Aotearoa Quilters will not accept liability for any loss, misdirected or delayed mail or damage or loss of entries while in their care.
  • All parties involved in the construction of the quilt must be named on the entry form.
  • Selection of quilts will be based on available hanging space and entry suitability for the exhibition. Non-selected entrants will be emailed before the opening of the exhibition.
  • Selectors/Judges’ decisions shall be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  •  An email will be sent to the entrant on receipt of entries. A copy of this must be presented for the collection of quilts. Entries may be collected at the exhibition venue, between 4 pm and 4.30pm on Sunday 10th March 2019.
  • Entries not being collected must include a prepaid self-addressed courier/postage bag large enough for the return of the quilts. It is acceptable to return more than one quilt in the same bag.  Cardboard and other forms of packing [except a cloth bag] are not retained for the return of quilts because of storage constraints.

Hanging and Identification Details

  • A hanging sleeve 4 inches wide, finishing ½ inch from either side and no more than ½ inch from the top edge of the quilt, is to be securely stitched to the top of the quilt, with the hook side of the velcro stitched to the top edge of the hanging sleeve. [also ½ inch from the sides and top of the quilt] No stick-on velcro is to be used. Velcro must be of a size to support the weight of the quilt. Soft-sided Velcro, of the same size, is to be attached to the hook side. This is to be named with the quilt title and maker’s name.
  • A fabric label with the quilt title, makers name and contact is to be securely attached to the quilt, on the back bottom left-hand corner, when viewed from the back.

Exhibiting Details

  • Entries may be for sale at the price set by the maker. Aotearoa Quilters will add 15% commission.
  • For planning the exhibition, a printed coloured photo [ no larger than 15cm x 20cm]of the full quilt is to be sent with the quilt. The name of the quilt must be written on the photo. The colour of the photo needs to closely resemble those of the quilt.

Photography Details

  • Photographing of the exhibition will be permitted by the general public.
  • Aotearoa Quilters may use photographic images for promotional purposes. Quiltmakers will be acknowledged.

Submission Details 

  • Complete an online entry form and entry fee payment for each submission.  PLEASE NOTE: you need to be logged in to access the entry form.
  • Make your payment using online banking to ASB 12-3048-0289863-00 Reference: GNZQS entry and Your Name. The entry fee is $20 for the first entry and each additional entry is $10. Please include a copy of your transaction details with the quilt.
  • A copy of your entry form will be automatically emailed to you – Please print and send with your quilt as well as a named photograph of the quilt
  • For the protection of your quilt, it should be submitted in a suitably sized cloth bag that is labeled with the quilt title and maker’s name. Include a prepaid courier bag for the return of your quilt if you are unable to collect it on Sunday 10th March.
  • Entries must be received no later than 14th February 2019. Late entries will not be accepted.

Notes on Sending Submissions

  • Please check with your courier company to ensure delivery by the due date [14th Feb 2019]. NZ Post and NZ Couriers deliver to Pauanui five days a week.
