Since it’s my turn to write the intro, and we’ve been discussing people’s studios, I thought I would introduce you to my chaos.
I have the second-largest bedroom in our house as my studio/office, but it isn’t large enough to cope with the sheer amount of stuff I have and use. I tend to spill over into the living room for cutting and ironing, and my quilting and craft books are in our bedroom on my side of the bed.
Only four of my sewing machines are in the studio — the rest are in the garage.
Part of the problem is that we sold my mother’s house last year, and I seem to have inherited a large chunk of her stash, along with other things that have mostly ended up in my sewing space. There are numerous boxes of fabric, and a small chest of drawers filled with buttons, beads, embroidery threads, and other weird and wonderful objects.
On top of my website duties, I also seem to have taken on looking after the travelling exhibitions. One of those suitcases is currently clogging my space even further.
As Nietzsche said, “You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star.” I’m hoping to create a dancing star of a quilt one day soon.
