April 2025 Newsletter

Hello everyone,

By the time you receive this newsletter it will be less than 3 weeks until the Great NZ Quilt Show. After nearly 2 years of working on the show it has all come together well, but it has not been without some challenges and stressful moments. The latest of these is the Defence Department doing some repairs to the roof of the building that requires scaffolding in the venue, and a small shift of location for Prizegiving drinks and nibbles. The Prizegiving in the Theatre is now fully subscribed. If you have registered and are now not able to attend, please let us know as soon as possible.

Thanks to all who have pre-booked entry and lecture tickets, and also purchased catalogues and breakfast places. This should make your entry run smoothly.  To collect your ticket on the day, come to the cash sale queue at the ticket box.

There are still places available for the lecture and breakfast. The lecture is on Saturday at the end of the show, and it will be great to hear Marion Keller from Carrefour – European Patchwork Meeting talk about their show, its history and growth and how they manage their international challenges.  The breakfast is being held at the Wigram Black & White Café on Sunday morning.  We have exclusive use of the café from 8am to 9.30am so it would be great to fill the last 11 places for this event.

The volunteers are also fully subscribed and we have some on standby, so thanks to you all. The committee can’t do this show without volunteers.

There is a very good on-site café which is now run by Meshino’s, owners of 2 other very popular cafes in Christchurch. You will need a pass out if you wish to go to the café and toilets and then return to the exhibition space.

We have organised a very good range of demonstrations to give you inspiration and knowledge of various techniques and products that are available. Thanks to the merchants and tutors who are providing the demonstrations.  The timetable for these is included below.

Over the dull and drizzly Easter here in Christchurch I spent time rearranging my sewing room. I came across a couple of panels from an estate. I hope to get at least one of these quilted for our community quilt recipients who will be attending the member’s breakfast.

With my other hat on, keep the membership renewals coming in. Only those people who have received a renewal notice please, and make sure you update your banking information with our full account name.
