Aotearoa Quilters have been invited to participate in an International challenge by not for profit group, NHQG – a Japanese quilting group. Thirty quilters from three countries will be involved – ninety in total.

Japan, France and Aotearoa New Zealand

The 90 quilts will initially be exhibited in Japan, then France followed by New Zealand.

The Challenge Quilts will be first exhibited on November 10th, 11th and 12th in Yokohama, Japan, and then in the hall of Tokyo Arakawa Ward in mid December.
Aotearoa Quilters plan to exhibit the 90 quilts at the Great New Zealand Quilt Show, Sept. 2018. All of the 90 quilts will then be exhibited in other NZ locations.

We are seeking thirty New Zealand Quilters to participate. The opportunity to participate is being offered first to Aotearoa Quilters Members. From June 1st it will be opened up to any New Zealand Quilter if all the subjects are not allocated.

The theme is “Cities naturels et merveille du monde”. – Natural cities and wonders of the world
.

How does it work?

You can download and see the thirty subjects at this link; 2017 Challenge Themes – Japan France New Zealand

There are three sites identified from each of the participating countries. The other twenty one are from around the globe. You can interpret or represent the theme in any way you want.

If you wish to participate, choose the natural wonder you would like as the subject for your quilt. Complete the entry form identifying your first choice and up to two other choices. Submit the entry form and pay the fee via internet banking.

Your allocated choice will be confirmed by return email. If none of your three choices are available you will be offered the opportunity to choose an alternate subject. Entries will be closed when all thirty subjects have been allocated to quilters.

As Aotearoa Quilters are required to submit the work of 30 quilters for this challenge it is important that if you are unable to proceed, after receiving your subject, that you contact us as soon as possible so your subject can be reallocated to another quilter.
You can illustrate/interpret your allocated subject as you choose, rather than copy the photo that is included in the information.
