Remembering Barbara Bilyard

Barbara BilyardIt was with much sadness that quilters throughout New Zealand learned of the passing of Barbara Bilyard on 18 March 2011, after a short illness.

Aotearoa Quilters is going to assemble a book of remembrance for Barbara’s family.

With the permission of Remarkable Symposium organisers, this book will be available for people who are attending, to add their thoughts and memories of Barbara. If you have made a contribution about Barbara on our yahoo group, this will be included. We welcome photos (small files only), small fabric pieces (maybe 2” squares of fabric that might remind you of Barbara or even mini quilts or heart shapes. Or make a post on our yahoo group.

Barbara was a leading NZ quilt artist and an inspirational, talented quiltmaker who made a valuable contribution during the many years she was involved in the art.
Barbara was a teacher who gained the respect of her students with her wisdom, praise and patience. It was fun to be in her workshops where she willingly and generously shared her experience and skills,
offering sound advice and encouragement to all. She had a great sense of humour and a jolly laugh that indicated her presence in a crowd.
Barbara will be remembered for her amazing talent and her larger than life presence. Her „keeping it sew simple‟ philosophy was one she practiced with much success and was well-known for.
Our thoughts go out to Barbara‟s family and all who knew her and loved her.
Kia kaha – arohanui.
