Marilyn Denton-Giles nominated by Donna Cumming

I have been a sewer and quilter for many years and have been a teacher for 10. I have been a convenor of several quilt shows, co-convened a quilters retreat for 127 national and international quilters. I love the buzz and excitement of being able to share and to grow my organisational skills within a team. Whilst I have carried out a wide range of roles on committees, I especially enjoy and excel at organising sponsorship. I feel I would be an asset on the AQ committee bringing in a range of skills. I also feel it would be an exciting time for AQ as this national body is going forward in leaps and bounds all for the good of NZ quilters.

Mary Culver nominated by Catherine McDonald

I am a lover of textile and fibre arts, who enjoys quilting, machine embroidery, and mixed media projects.

I have been a member of the Aotearoa Quilters committee member for the past two and a half years contributing ideas, taking responsibility for the Aotearoa Quilters website and Face Book page, and the role of minute secretary. I am a founding member of NANZQ/Aotearoa Quilters, a current member of Rose City Quilters, and previous member of Pinestream Quilters. I have convened Coast to Coast in Wellington, been involved on various organising committees over the years.

In my professional life my background is in Occupational Therapy and I strongly link involvement in activity with health & wellbeing – in my case anything involving fibre, textiles, art or craft activities. Currently I work as a Manager in a government organisation. In both these roles I have developed management skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of people, valuable skills for Aotearoa Quilters.

My vision for Aotearoa Quilters is that it will continue to be an exciting and strong organisation that supports the ongoing development of quilting and textile art and craft in New Zealand, relevant and useful to the New Zealand quilting community, and a preserver of New Zealand quilting history.

Donna Cumming nominated by Liz McKenzie

I have been on the Calico Xmas/Festival of Quilts committee for 4+ years mainly as merchant convenor, so I am used to being a team player but within that having responsibility and organising a team of my own. I am a details person; I enjoy seeing the big picture and breaking it all down to (¼ inch square) bite size steps .I enjoy doing the mundane and repetitive task and making sure everything is of a high standard. Negative – I am not a sales person and will not tell you what you want to hear.

Felicity Ellison nominated by Bobby Duncan

I’ve been quilting on and off for over 30 years. I enjoy the process and seeing my work being appreciated by family and friends. I am a very good all-rounder, willing to help with most things. Liz McKenzie nominated by Natalie Murdoch

I have been quilting for 13 years and have exhibited in UK, Canada, USA, Australia and NZ. I believe I have the skills, knowledge and commitment to be an asset to AQ. My working background is in administration, event organisation and accounts. I am a hobby quilter, enjoy this. I have been treasurer for AQ since 2014. The association was struggling at that time and I have been part of the team that has rebuilt to present standing. AQ uses MYOB for its accounting and I have had to completely learn this and other IT skills on the way.
