International Challenge – Natural Wonders of the World

Exciting News! Natural Wonders of the World exhibit is here!

Moeraki Boulders by Catherine McDonald

Shiretoko by Paula Cole

Aotearoa Quilters members last year participated in an international challenge with French and Japanese quilters. Each quilter was given a topic – a natural wonder. The same topics were used in each of the three countries resulting in three different perspectives on each topic. The quilts have been exhibited in Japan and are now here in New Zealand. They will travel to France in August for their exhibition in September.

All the quilts from New Zealand, Japan and France, 30 from each country, will be on display at Cottage Flair, 1127 Fenton Street,
Rotorua, the last weekend of this month, February. The shop is open on Saturday 24th February from 9 to 3 and on Sunday 25th February from 10 to 3.

The NZ quilts can be viewed here in the gallery on our website  but we haven’t seen the French and Japanese ones yet. This is a unique opportunity to compare styles of the 3 countries as the 30 subjects are interpreted in different ways.

The quilts are available for exhibition in New Zealand from now until August, when they head away to France. We will keep you informed about the touring schedule. If you have an idea where they could be displayed, please contact Mary, President@aotearoaquilters.co.nz.

Many thanks to our sponsors for the exhibition in Rotorua, Pfaff and HandiQuilter. Cottage Flair, the hosts for the exhibition, will have specials on both Pfaff and HandiQuilter machines for the exhibition weekend.
