Welcome to Aotearoa Quilters

Formed in 1994 as the National Association of New Zealand Quilters (NANZQ), we support quilters and textile artists by offering classes, exhibitions and professional development opportunities. Membership is open to anyone interested in the NZ quilting and textile scene.

Cosy Kiwi Kids

As winter sets in it is timely to remember not all New Zealand children have access to warm bedding  – Cosy Kiwi Kids was set up in response to that aiming to ensure that no child in New Zealand be without a quilt or blanket for warmth.

We have now donated hundreds of quilts into the Porirua area, Rotorua and surrounds, Northern regions, the latest donations have gone to the Hurinui District to be distributed to children and young people affected by the Kaikoura earthquake. You can see snapshots below of some of the wonderful quilts donated by generous New Zealand Quilters.

Cosy Kiwi Kids - Hurunui

We continue to call for donations of completed quilts for Cosy Kiwi Kids. North Island donors can send quilts to :

Bobby Duncan, Fabrics By Three, 17 Fleetwood Grove, Waikanae, Kapiti Coast 5036.

Aotearoa Quilters is very appreciative of Bobby’s assistance in coordinating Cosy Kiwiw Kids. We will confirm a contact/co-ordinator for donors from the South Island soon (Please contact me if this is something you would like to do.( president@aotearoaquilters.co.nz).

From now on we will where possible coordinate quilts within each island to minimise costs of distribution, as the cost of transporting quilts across the Strait is quite expensive – money that could be put to better use.

If you are unable to donate a quilt but are able to donate money towards cost of batting and backing ( for previously donated quilt tops we are quilting), or to freight quilts to their intended destination please contact us – we would appreciate your assistance in this way.
