Welcome to Aotearoa Quilters

Formed in 1994 as the National Association of New Zealand Quilters (NANZQ), we support quilters and textile artists by offering classes, exhibitions and professional development opportunities. Membership is open to anyone interested in the NZ quilting and textile scene.


Aotearoa Quilters, the national association of New Zealand quilters intends to promote high standards in quilt making, ensuring the past is preserved and the future is assured.

With your support  Aotearoa Quilters will host the following initiatives;

  • Establish Regional Representatives in all areas of the country
  • Professional development for quilting tutors  – the first being the Quilt Tutors Seminar in September 2015
  • Develop archives to record the history of quilting in New Zealand
  • Biennial National Exhibitions. The Great New Zealand Quilt Show will be held in Rotorua, May 2016. Entry will be open to Aotearoa Quilters members.
  • 12 x 12 Colour challenges open to all New Zealand Quilters. Green is our current challenge – Members receive discounts for exhibition entry fees
  • Travelling exhibitions. The Growth Challenge is currently touring
  • Cozy Kiwi Kidz -charity quilts collected for the benefit of New Zealand Children
  • Develop the Aotearoa Quilters website as the ‘go to’ place for  information related to quilting and textile arts in New Zealand
  • Host the Aotearoa Quilters Face Book page to connect New Zealand Quilters and provide opportunity for sharing information
  • Provide members with regular Newsletters to provide up to date information
